Apart from being the oldest Congregational Chapel in the UK, the Old Meeting is much more than just a building which is an amazing building. William Bridge who gathered it in 1643 belonged to a group of Christians known as the Puritans who made a radical difference to the Christian Church. You may not know that during his boyhood Charles Spurgeon (1834 – 1864) spent part of his boyhood with his grandfather James Spurgeon who was the Congregational minister at Stanbourne Congregational Church and whilst with his grandfather the spent much of his time reading the Puritan books in his grandfather’s library. He became the most popular preacher in his day preaching over 3,600 sermons to over 10 million people.

We have a great vision for this ancient chapel and would invite you to make a donation.

We are part of the Congregation Federation and are a registered charity – ref 264839
