If you believe in God, you must be an optimist – not a blind optimist, of course, one who cannot see or even feel all the thorns below the rise, but one who believes that there is some great purpose in the vast design of the universe, some great end to which all life is moving. The story of the rocks is one of never ending-improvement. The outline of history this one is gradual development towards something higher and nobler. The life of man is an epic of discovery – discovery of greater worlds, of an unfathomed self, and of the nature and will of God.
