Old Meeting House Congregational Church (1643)

The Best Hidden Church in Norwich

Father's Legacy

A few weeks ago I was invited to attend the 50th anniversary of the re-dedication of St Andrews Church, Scole, Nr. Diss in Norfolk after

Apart from the rebuilding of Scole church my father played a huge part in my development as a child. A while ago I wrote an article FATHER’S LEGACY which was published by several magazines.it had been destroyed by an arsonist.  My late father Rev Hugh Clements was the rector at the time and played a key role in the rebuilding of the church. Several people who attended the service who used to attend the church when my father was there  shared with me some of their memories. This got me thinking about the importance of leaving a legacy and I wondered what type of legacy I would leave. Have you ever thought about the one you will leave?

There is something about leaving a legacy that inspires me as I attend the Old Meeting House Church and look back at the history of the chapel’s beginnings. Back then, the members had to meet in secret and risked imprisonment or even worse! William Bridge who drew up the Covenant in 1643 had to flee the country on several occasions to escape imprisonment. Despite that he has left us a marvelous spiritual heritage in the 36 books he wrote.
