The Resurrection is much more than an incident in history. It did not reach its climax in outward circumstances but in the hearts of men. Only when the disciples realised the power of the Risen Christ in themselves did they become transformed. From that moment, however, the defied Death. It no longer had dominion over them. They knew that Death was a servant, because they had known its Master. Their bodies might be tormented by the flames or consumed by wild beasts, but they would pass through every ordeal unscathed Christ had risen and they would rise. The man in whose heart Christ lives cannot be destroyed. His body may perish, but he is alive for evermore.
